The crash involving three cars and an Adirondack Trails bus occurred on the eastbound side near milepost 44.8 at approximately 7:30 p.m., New Jersey State Police said.

The victim of the crash was identified as Brianna Herrara, a Syracuse University student who was on the bus, on her way to visit family in New York City.

The Morris County Office of Emergency Management said of the 36 people injured:

  • Four were seriously injured -- they were transported to Morristown Medical Center’s Level 1 Trauma Center by ambulance
  • Seventeen were transported by the Morris County Office of Emergency Management’s mobile ambulance bus
  • Five were transported to Saint Clare's in Dover
  • Ten were transported from Route 80 to the Parsippany District 5 firehouse for evaluation

"A bus almost a half mile down the highway with the front end smashed up," said Brian Fitzpatrick, who drove through the scene. "People [were] being taken out through the front windows."

All lanes were open as of Friday morning.
